The River Yare flows Eastwards from Norwich and there
are few crossing places.
This route follows NCN Routes 1 and 831 along the South
side of the Yare Valley passing through several small and picturesque villages on the way. The ride is just over 20 miles long.
From Norwich ride Southwards, past the Football Stadium
to Whitlingham Lane and the entry to Whitlingham Country Park.

Pass the enormous water treatment works of Anglian Water. Not a pretty sight, but......
............they have made a bit of an effort with the lovely daffodils at the main entrance.
After leaving the Country Park we are back on the public roads turning left at this junction to Kirby Bedon..........................
..............................................which has this spectacular ruined church.
And almost opposite another spectacular display of daffodils in the more modern churchyard.
Most of the route is on minor country lanes with little traffic.

This is Rockland Staithe one of many waterways which link with the River Yare.

The village of Lodden lies on the River Chet, another tributary of the River Yare.

A long and appropriately named lane leads down to Reedham Ferry

The small chain ferry is just big enough to carry a couple of cars or one lorry.
Pedestrians pay 50p and cyclists £1.
On the far side is the pub and the road leads to Reedham village and the railway station.
Trains link to Lowestoft and Norwich.
Although Norwich is over 170 miles from Derby by road, access by rail is good and not expensive if you have a railcard. Trawl the Internet for best prices and book well ahead.
