A Trip to The Wash

The plan was to go by train to Kings Lynn and from there cycle to Shepherd's Port, calling at Sandringham on the way and at Castle Rising on the way back.
The train journey involved two changes - one at Nottingham to board the Norwich bound train, and another at Ely to catch the Kings Lynn train.
Ride distance is about 16 miles each way.

The Kings Lynn train arrives at Ely Station.

                                       Map of the route.

We are following NCN Route 1 and it is well signed .........

.......... through the streets and parks of Kings Lynn.

Many of the small villages have impressive churches.

And as we pass Sandringham House we see characteristic buildings of the Royal Estate.

Here is the main gatehouse and entrance to Sandringham.

 Another village church
And here we are at Shepherd's Port - Just sand. sea, dunes and a caravan site - in fact a typical bucket and spade place.  No sign of shepherds or sheep.

We are just 4.5 miles from Hunstanton.

And you can see the surrounding shores of The Wash.

On the way back we ride through the grounds of Castle Rising,

Here are the remains of the castle.

and the surrounding ramparts.
